Today schools and colleges use internships in a variety of different settings. Internships can be tailored to meet the specific needs of a school or college.

Internships are offered as:

  • An antidote for the “senior slump” for high school seniors, including those who have completed their academic requirements, and are eager to get out to the real world as they wait for their graduation day
  • An integrated part of their English, Social Studies or Business curricula giving students an opportunity to apply their knowledge in the real world
  • An intervention for students who may be at risk of dropping out and who would benefit from non-classroom learning
  • An integrated part of the Senior Project
  • An option in a Community Service or Service Learning program
  • A pathway for special education students to transition from school
  • An opportunity for all high school or community college students to gain firsthand experience in the real world
  • An alternative education opportunity for the non-traditional learner
